Western-European citiziens do not need a visa to enter into the United Kingdom. Other people, however, may need a visa. Certainly all people with a travel document (refugees) do need a visa. Since the United Kingdom is not a member of the Schengen-Agreement a Schengen-visa is not valid for travelling into the UK. The Amsterdam consulate does not issue visas anymore as from March 1, 2011. All travellers in need of a visa for the UK must apply in person at the British consulate in Düsseldorf (Germany), or, as from August 15, in Amsterdam at the WorldBridge Biometric Clinic. But in Amsterdam services are (considerably) more expensive. Unfortunately the Visumdienst can do nothing for you.
Procedure: an online application must be completed at http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/applyonline/ in english. When the form is completed you are addressed to a link in order to make an appointment, either in Amsterdam (more expensive)or in Düsseldorf. This takes about a week. On the settled date (and time) the applicant must go in person to the consulate to complete the application. Then the application will be processed and after c. 3 weeks the passport (with visa) will be sent back to the applicant by courrier.
For any questions you can contact the consular helpline at T 0900 3335511 (€ 0,80 / minute). This helpline supports several languages but not Dutch.
